This was my first encounter with Fitzgerald: unforgettable.Rereading has led to a deeper appreciation of the story and the social comment without detracting from the original emotional enjoyment. This book led me to read most of Fitzgerald’s other works which I thoroughly enjoy despite his all pervasive melancholy due, I suspect, to regarding the world through the bottom of a bottle. (Note: I suspect my profound antipathy towards Daisy in the film is responsible for a lingering dislike of Mia Farrow)
